Chanel Serial Number Check

No — and with Chanel this matters especially. Counterfeits copy real, existing serial numbers. A matching series only says the number is consistent with a production period. The item itself still has to be judged.

This is the most important point on the page: Chanel has never published such a table. The mapping was compiled over years by the resale and authentication trade from documented items.

Two consequences: the boundaries between series are approximate, and for some series the sources disagree. Where that happens we flag it in the result and give the wider range.

On items up to 2021 a small holographic sticker sits inside, often in an interior pocket or under the lining flap. It comes with an authenticity card carrying the same number.

Since April 2021 there is neither sticker nor card, but a laser-engraved metal plate with an NFC chip.

Six digits mean about 1984 to 1986, seven digits 1986 to 2005 and eight digits 2005 to 2021. With seven digits the first digit gives the series, with eight digits the first two.

It was made in 2021 or later. The eight-character code on the chip is a random identifier and encodes no production year, so nothing further can be derived from it.

Not necessarily. The stickers come loose over the years, especially in pockets that see heavy use. Very early items from the mid-1980s had no hologram at all — its absence is normal there.

On items up to 2021 it should be identical. A card and sticker that disagree are a clear warning sign.
